Our Modified Honeymoon Update #4: Let’s Go Back With Friends
Friday we would’ve been visiting Tombstone, Arizona. On Saturday our plan was to turn in the rented RV and check into our AirBnb in the heart of Phoenix. After checking in we were going to check out Downtown Phoenix and have a relaxing night at our rental. Instead, we are in Western Maine, but now with friends.
Friday, August 21
We started the morning off with some bacon, toast and fruit before heading out on our next adventures.
Following breakfast we decided to try and find the Reed Falls again. This time we researched more and were able to park in the right spot. However, as we started down the “original” trailhead, we quickly learned to turn back and find the new trailhead down the street about 1/4 mile. The old trailhead was too dangerous.
This hike to the falls was not a difficult hike. It winded next to the Reed Brook and was soft on the feet. The entire hike was about 1.2 miles round trip. Once we made it to the falls we found out it was likely much more exciting during the spring months when the snow from the mountain is melting. However, it was a very cool waterfall and the hike was worth the trip.
For only the second time this trip we decided to grab some to-go food for lunch. We ordered from The Bag and Kettle. This lunch had been planned for a few days, because we were craving wood-fired pizza. We ordered our typical pepperoni, pineapple pepperoncini pizza. It was delicious. We ate it back at the condo while finishing up a scrabble game, which Taylor won without issue.
Although we’ve been having an amazing time, just the two of us, we opted to invited our great friends Casey and Addie to join us for the last night or two. We thought this condo and the Carrabassett Valley area is too good not to share with them.
Casey and Addie joined us around dinner time. No question, they had to join us at Alice and Lulu’s at the base of the mountain. Our first trip was so amazing we wanted to share the experience with friends. We shared cheese plates, bread, wine and macarons.
Following dinner we made our way back to the condo for drinks and cards before turning in for the night.
Saturday, August 22
With our friends in town, we wanted to bring them to some spots we discovered while on our honeymoon. However, first we needed breakfast. This time we went back to D’Ellies, this time for breakfast sandwiches and coffee. We ate in the village and enjoy the scenery and beautiful weather Saturday brought us.
After breakfast, we took Addie and Casey back to Poplar Stream Falls. As you might remember, we went to Lower Poplar Stream Falls on Monday and really enjoyed it. This time we went to both the lower falls and made our way down the trail to something new for all of us, Upper Poplar Stream Falls. In our opinion, the upper falls are much better and the hike was nice. We were enjoying the weather and hiking so much, we opted to continue past the falls and walk along the stream.
Casey and Addie where only in town until at the latest 2pm, so we wanted to enjoy another of our favorite spots before getting lunch and sending them off. We stopped at our favorite swimming area off Route 27 and explored the rocky Carrabassett River, dipped our toes and evens legs into the cold mountain water and enjoyed some sun.
Our friends were making their way back to Bangor, so it was nice to get lunch in Kingfield, Maine on their route back. Saturday’s lunch was at Rolling Fatties. Taylor got a Burrito Bowl with a lemonade, while Justin had a Cheeseburger Fatty with a Banded Brewing Wicked Bueno. Addie and Casey both go the Freedom Fatty, a chef’s choice of ingredients. Safe to say we were all happy with our choices.
With our friends on their way, we went back to the condo to relax a bit before heading into the village to check out some Sugarloaf shops and return to Alice and Lulu’s for some more macarons.
Our last dinner on the mountain was one that we wanted to take it easy and relax, so Maine red hot dogs was on the docket.
Relaxing with mountain views, starry skies and finally a movie before bed is the plan to round out the night. We are definitely old souls at times.
Sunday we are off to Lewiston to celebrate Taylor’s sister and step-brother’s graduation with family. Then back home before work on Monday!
